Pikey |

I have to say i have done my
fair share of "Pikey-bashing" but all credit to him and the players for the
performances and the results over the last couple of weeks. It seems
like the lads are playing more like a team, there's less arguing between the
players and more encouragement. It is also nice to see other players
scoring goals - not just putting all our hopes on Bennett. It seems
the passion is back at Boro - every win is celebrated like we've won the FA
Cup. Keep it up 'til the end of the season and then I hope we don't
sell all of our players and bring in new ones like last year. The
players are gelling together now so only a few positions need strengthening
e.g. full-backs and perhaps another quality striker.

I have never had ago at Pikey.
It must be a very difficult job managing our club, but he has risen above
all his knockers with a great deal of professionalism.

With the number of goals that
Justin has scored this season we would have been right up **** creek without
him. I really hope that every effort is taken to retain his services
next season. I'm sure that he will be approached by "bigger" teams
from maybe a higher division. Perhaps if the fans pay homage here then
he'll realise he is wanted.

I think I'm right in saying
that Justin is contracted for another season at Privett.

Reading the match report on
last nights game, it gives the impression that the gaffer made changes to
the playing staff as a matter of course. This was not the case - Lee
Chuddy had to withdraw with a groin injury and Danny Thompson with an
injured knee. Josh Thomas and Nathan Lynch both failed fitness tests
so with this in mind I think this made it a remarkable victory against one
of the in form sides of the league. Justin is contracted to the end of
next season (2008/09) with a years option after that which would tie him
into the Club until the end of the season 2009/10 if the club were to take
up the option. The gaffer believes him to be the best striker in the
league and that's why the chairman and board backed him to buy the striker
in the first place. It does seem a silly thing for Skumbanana to say
as his opening statement would be true of hundreds of clubs with top
strikers. Its very rare to have two strikers banging in goals.
Justin is doing what he was brought to the Club to do. We should be
singing the gaffer's and boards judgement for signing him in the first
place. Surely his value as doubled since he has now proved himself in
the Southern League. We must not forget this is his first season at
this level and he is more them capable of playing higher. Well done
Justin, the gaffer and board.

Tenth in the league, nine
points off the play offs with a game in hand and we have to play Windsor and
Eaton at home Saturday week. Struggling? Who's Struggling now?
Well done Pikey and the lads.

Top assistant - you haven't
quite taken my point. As a Southampton supporter for more than forty
years I have seen a succession of top class players being sold off.
Even when a player is on contract, if a bigger club comes in and jingles a
purse of gold that player walks whether the club want to sell or not.
A good example would be Kenwyn Jones who, when Sunderland approached him,
refused to train or even travel with the team to ensure his transfer went
through. What I was attempting to do in my subtle way was to encourage
our fan base to make a fuss of him and make him feel really wanted at the
Club. Big Scams was a very popular figure and we could do with some
more heroes for the fans to associate with. Apart from that I agree
entirely with your comments. Well done the Boro'.

I doubt any true supporter
ever doubted Pikey - it was just outsiders intent on causing trouble.
He is by far the best manager we have had. He will take this Club to
higher levels. We have Justin on contract, what about our manager?
If we do well clubs will be in for him again.

That's the problem with these
postings Skumbanana. Your posting I referred to could have been read
as a negative one implying that if we did not have Justin and his goals we
would be in trouble at the wrong end of the league. Thanks for putting your
intended slant on the matter, although I still feel the gaffer has not been
given enough credit in securing Justin's services for the Club in the first
place. There were a number of clubs after his signature but the gaffer
convinced him this was the club to be at. There has been enough
criticism on this site about poor players he has signed but should we not
give him a bit of praise for the good ones or is it just one way traffic on
this site? Perhaps we could re-Christian this forum "Turk Moan"!

Tenth in the league, seven
points off the play-offs with a game in hand and we are playing Windsor &
Eton this Saturday. Struggling? Who's struggling now? Give Pikey
and the lads freedom of the Borough (even though its not worth that much)!

I agree with true supporter -
Pikey is the best manager we have had. When you think its his first season
in the Southern League, what he has achieved along with a great squad of
players and backroom staff is nothing short of amazing (safe and aiming for
the promotion play-offs). Three cheers to you Alex.

Top assistant - the way some
of our so called supporters have tried to screw things up this forum should
be called TurkTorque! It is easy now having had seven wins to swing
the opposite way and propose Pikey for a knighthood. He has made some
awful signings this season but presumably has been man enough to get rid of
them before too much damage was done. He has also made some excellent
signings as well - Chudy and Bennett just a couple of examples. I did
think he stuck with Gibbo too long but to be fair Gibbo had been around the
bazaars for a while and presumably played a reasonable standard at some
stage! It's a bit early to sum the season up and it's been a bit of a
rollercoaster at times but all in all eminently enjoyable.

To be fair to the gaffer
Skumbanana, with hindsight some signings may seem to have been awful but if
you take Gibbo as an example he played in the Southern League with
Weston-Super-Mare before being purchased for £4,000 by Newport where he won
the league. He also played for Bashley so the CV was significant.
The reason he stayed so long was that Justin enjoyed playing with him and
they had a good partnership. There was no natural replacement until
Nathan Lynch signed. Justin and John Wilson make similar runs and
until recently appeared that they could not play together - although they
both did extremely well against Hillingdon. There have been other
signings who again had excellent CV's but for whatever reasons failed to
impress at Gosport. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At least we now
know we have a nucleolus of core players to build on next season who should
take us to the next level.

So I believe! Talking to
a man in the know he told me about Gibbo's track record and I was amazed.
I don't know why he performed so badly for The Boro'. I suppose all
players have a few good seasons and then play on former glory. We had
Mark Hughes sign for Saints from Man Unitied and we expected him to be
brilliant. In the event he was awful - stopped scoring goals and kept
getting sent off. Fleetlander, this is a result led business and all
faults can and will be forgiven all the time we are winning. A couple
of duff games and no doubt the manager will be under the cosh again.
