Cinderford started the game in attacking mood and could have been a goal to the good within five minutes had McCootie done better when one-on-one with Pryce.
In contrast, Gosport looked clueless going forward but nearly sneaked a lead when Town 'keeper John punched the ball towards his own net but a sharp defender saved the day.
With Cinderford in control, McCootie again found himself with just Pryce to beat but again the visiting forward missed from close range.
Boro's Bennett began to menace the visitors as the home side finally started to find their feet but they were soon undone just before the half hour when McCootie found Whittington and the Town man slotted the ball home.
The second half started with a half-time tongue lashing ringing in the Gosport player's ear and Alex Pike's men began an urgent search for a way back into the game but their task became much harder as poor marking allowed Sommers to nod home on the hour to double Town's advantage.
With a mountain to climb, Boro' found it difficult to make any dent in Cinderford's defence although Bennett did think he'd giving the home side a lifeline only to have his effort ruled out for offside.
With the final whistle came the boos and a lot of work for Alex Pike and his management team in the two weeks before Boro' next take to the field.
