With the Boro' line-up again shuffled through injury, the home side had the perfect start when after only four minutes Liam Sewell latched on to the rebound of James Ford's blocked effort to fire Gosport into an early lead.
But the lead only lasted eight minutes when Lee Chilton levelled from the penalty spot after Lee Molyneaux had brought down Nathan Jones.
With the trio of Adam Wilde, Ian Jones and Steve Claridge already missing from the starting line-up through injury, Boro's problems worsened when Sewell limped from the fray only minutes later. He was replaced by top scorer in the reserves, Callum Laycock.
Both sides were carving out chances but Nathan Ashmore for Gosport and Paul Evens for Halesowen were proving difficult to beat.
As the first half drew to a close, the home side were denied a stonewall penalty after Justin Bennett was shoved by Folkes but Boro's protests fell on deaf ears.
Halesowen started the second half the better of the two sides and it too Boro' a while to get back into their stride with Laycock going closest to putting the home side ahead until Bennett converted from the penalty spot with ten minutes to go.
Unlike the first half appeal, the referee had no doubt about awarding the spot kick for Smith's challenge on Nathan Kirby and following Bennett's conversion, Town's misery was compounded when Foulkes failed to control his temper leaving the referee to produce a red card as his team-mates fought to restrain him.
