Steve Claridge came off the bench to grab Boro's winner as Alex Pike's men saw off promotion rivals Thatcham Town.
In an important week for Gosport, Alex Pike's men needed a solid performance and all three points if they were to close in on the top spots after the New Year's blip at Poole Town.
But it was the visitors who were the ones dishing out the pressure. Acting captain Brett Poate was forced to bring the best from his side as Town took the game to Gosport.
However, despite the Berkshire side's pressure, their lack of finishing and the abilities of 'keeper Nathan Ashmore kept them at bay.
Both Carl Self and Tom Etheridge saw their efforts saved by the young 'keeper and Matt Bowler and Jemel Johnson wasted glorious chances for Town with Boro's only effort of note a Justin Bennett effort that Strudley did well to save.
The second half continued as the first had ended - with Thatcham in charge. Again Bowler and Etheridge had chances to open the scoring but their finishes both missed their target.
After Liam Sewell picked up a yellow card for a clash with Gareth Thomas, Pike introduced Claridge to the fray and he was to prove to be the match winner but not until Ashmore had once again proved his worth with a point blank save from Self.
The goal that settled the game came with nine minutes later after Claridge turned the ball in from close way after superb work from Dan Woodward and George Way.
Boro' now face the difficult trip to league leaders Bideford on Tuesday night needing to keep up their good run of results.
