Gosport got back to winning ways with a solid 2-1 win over Bridgwater Town thanks to Justin Bennett's first half brace.
Boro' were in determined mood to put last week's poor result behind them and the home side were denied what looked to be a stonewall penalty when Mr Tranter waved away Gosport claims after Bennett was felled.
Gosport were in control of the game and duly took the lead mid-way through the half when Dan Wooden broke quickly and Bennett dispatched his cross from close range.
Wooden was then involved again as he combined with Ellis Martin to pick out Bennett but Town's Matt Pitcher stuck out his leg and deflected the goalbound effort wide of the post.
Wooden was having a good game but in a rash moment he dived in two-footed on Bob Clowes and the referee had no choice but to show him a red card.
But Boro' still bossed the game even with a man short and it was no surprise when Bennett added his second when the striker wriggled free of some heavy challenges before blasting his shot in off the post.
Bridgwater then gave themselves a lifeline - and gave Gosport something to worry about - when Barnes thumped in a free-kick that Nathan Ashmore failed to hold and could only watch as the ball ended up in the corner of his net.
Town substituted their 'keeper at the start of the second half with Ryan Lewis taking over between the sticks and he was quickly in the action dealing with an effort from Martin.
Nathan Ashmore made up for his first half error by touching over Barnes' effort before Lewis again needed to be alert - this time racing out of his goal to boot clear as Bennett went in search of his third.
As the game moved into its closing phase, Town went close when Kye Palmer his the crossbar but it was still the home side who looked more like scoring with George Way and Bennett both going close.
