Old firm to clash again
Published: 1 April 2008

Christmas and Easter weren't the same this year without the annual Gosport Vs Fareham derby but the two clubs are set to renew the rivalry with a new competition.

Boro' will entertain The Reds at Privett Park on Tuesday 15th April in the newly inaugurated Newman/Harper Trophy.

The competition, to be held annually and alternatively between Privett and Cams, is named in memory of two stalwarts of the clubs.

Roy Newman of Boro' and Malcolm Harper of Town were both well know and well respected members of their clubs, the wider football world and their community and both lost their battle against Cancer.

The annual competition will hope to reawaken the keen rivalry between the two sides and will also help raise much needed funds for Cancer charities.

With the two clubs so closely tied over the years and the loss of the two games this season, it is hoped that a good crowd will turn out on April 15th to support the teams, the competition and Cancer charities.  Kick-off is 7.45pm.
