Pike linked with The Hawks
Published: 1 October 2007

With Havant & Waterlooville manager Ian Baird moving to Blue Square South rivals Eastleigh, Boro' manager Alex Pike has immediately been linked to the Hawks job.

Baird's switch follows an approach to The Hawks at the weekend and despite Eastleigh being rebuffed, it appears that Baird has resigned to join their bitter rivals.

Immediately the news hit the grapevine, Alex Pike's name was mentioned in the press as a possible candidate for the vacant post but the Boro' boss has refused to be moved by "paper talk".

"I would by lying to say I wasn't interested," admitted Pike.  "Havant & Waterlooville are two divisions above us and a big club but at the moment it's all just paper talk.  I am ambitious but I have not heard anything from anyone at West Leigh Park.

"Havant are a club that have always gone for big names as their manager - Ian Baird and Lian Daish for example.  The go for guys that have played at a higher level and that would rule me out straight away," he concluded.

Nevertheless, speculation will continue to circulate until Hawks HQ appoint their new manager and Alex Pike's rising stock would put him in the picture should the Blue Square South club wish to take a chance on an unproven manager.
