Pike still puzzled over Boro's
position With ten league games under his belt, manager Alex Pike admits he still doesn't know where Gosport Borough fit into the scheme of things. Speaking to Wendy Gee of The Daily Echo, Pike confessed that by now he expected to have a decent idea about whether his team were to be serious contenders or also-rans in Division One South & West. But every time Pike thinks he has got the opposition weighed up, teams suddenly go off the boil or a bizarre result pops up to throw a spanner in the works. "Just look at Uxbridge," said Pike. "They were flying and then they lost four on the trot. Now they're winning again and are back up there. Then there's Didcot. They looked magnificent at the start of the season and beat us 2-0 up there but we can go above them now if we win our games in hand. "It looks like everyone in this league is capable of beating everyone else." A comment which will be of particular note to Andy Sinton at Fleet Town who has seen his side slump to consecutive defeats in league games they were expected to win - Paulton Rovers and AFC Hayes. "We've played Paulton three times this season, beaten them three times and they looked very ordinary," said Pike. "Fleet on the other hand looked a darned good side when we played them in the FA Cup so I would never have expected those scorelines. "Where that leaves us, I'm not sure. I still don't know how we measure up in this league. "In the Wessex I knew I was the best manager with the best team. Now all I know is that I'm still the best manager but I'm not sure if I have the best team anymore, " he joked.
