Match report: U14s 'B' v Fleet Spurs Gosport Borough started the match brightly, with a couple of early shots on goal. Striker Matt Bialas was on top form and tested the opposition's keeper with a rasping shot in the first real attack of the game. The engine room of GBYFC is the midfield pairing of James Drage and captain, Daniel Holland. Between the two of them they controlled the centre of the field with some fierce tackles and bags of determination. This kept Matt Bialas and fellow striker Hayden Alderson comfortably supplied with the ammunition they needed to attack the Fleet goal. With the Fleet Spurs still a bit slow off the mark, a quick ball over the top of their defence by Peter Sillence saw Matt Bialas pounce on the chance and deftly slot the ball into the back of the net. This spurred Gosport on and wave after wave of attacks saw three or four chances spurned. Having conceded a goal, Fleet soon upped their game and started to exert some pressure on the Gosport defence. Gosport soaked up the pressure and seemed to be in control again, when a slip in the defence let the Fleet strikers pounce, and a well taken goal levelled the game. To their credit, Borough's heads didn't drop and shortly before half time a superb cross from the left wing by James Drage saw striker Matt Bialas get to the ball first and head a lovely goal past the stranded Fleet keeper. The second half found Fleet with an appetite for goals, and they really took the game to Borough. Some great defending by Peter Sillence, Robert Carns and the wing backs Nathan Lazenbury and Nick Sinclair, kept the score at 2-1 to Borough. Striker Hayden Alderson was feeling the effects of the heat and was replaced up front by Chris Sones with substitute Jack Samways taking the vacant left wing position and adding some much needed energy to the Boro' attack. Winger Sam Procter was having a good game on the right wing and a couple of pinpoint crosses seemed to give Borough a bit more of an edge in front of goal and two more good chances went begging. But Fleet Spurs' strikers took the advantage and ran onto a great through ball and made the scores level at 2-2. With just minutes of the match left, Fleet broke through the Borough back line and looked certain to snatch victory when an outstanding last ditch tackle by left back Nathan Lazenbury foiled the Fleet attackers. Borough started the first period of extra time brightly and surged forward with attack after attack. Two more gilt edged chances went begging for Borough who just could not break the deadlock. Fleet was desperately trying to get back into the game, and some excellent saves by keeper Harry Randall kept Borough on level terms. James Drage, having dropped back to centre back to replace the tired Robert Carns, made some great clearances at the heart of the Borough defence. Hayden Alderson, having rejoined the fray, was brought off so that Robert Carns could add his shooting power to the Gosport attack. With minutes remaining, a great ball from the Borough midfield saw Matt Bialas complete his hat trick with yet another fine goal. Final score: Fleet Spurs 2 Gosport Borough 3 (aet) Man of the Match was awarded to both Matt Bialas and Nathan Lazenbury, for their outstanding performances.
