Pike wants Pompey link
Published: 14 April 2008

Alex Pike is hoping that a recent meeting with Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will bring the Cup finalists to Privett pre-season and some of Pompey's younger players.

Pike, who has known Redknapp since his days at AFC Bournemouth, met with the Pompey manager hoping to arrange a prestigious friendly before the start of Boro's next Southern League campaign.

It has been some time since Boro's Premier League neighbours have visited Privett Park - despite recent visits to Havant & Waterlooville, Fareham Town and Eastleigh.

Pike also raised the subject of Pompey's Academy players with the Gosport boss believing that that Boro' could help their development.

Speaking to Steve Wilson of the Sports Mail, Pike said: "They have a lot of young players there these days and with so many players it's difficult for some of them to get regular football.

"So of course, we'd be more than happy to help if we were required to do so.  It would certainly toughen them up.

"It's a physical league but there are also plenty of teams who like to get the ball down and play and any youngster coming to us would certainly enhance his knowledge of the game."
