Match report: U16s v Portsmouth
Chimes 'B' C league side Pompey Chimes 'B' travelled to Gosport on a very wet Sunday afternoon to play a recently under performing Boro' side. In poor conditions both teams struggled early on in the driving rain before on 12 minutes in form striker Conor Mansfield added to his tally of seven in five games as he broke the offside trap and drove a shot low to the Chimes' keeper's right to break the deadlock. With the weather against them, Chimes failed to cope with a powerful Boro' side who doubled their lead on 23 minutes when Chimes backed away from Mansfield and he curled his shot into the top right from 25 yards out. Boro' then began to dominate and Ben Foster spurned two guilt edge chances before volleying from close range on the half hour mark. Lewis Case was then substituted after he suffered a large gash to the knee and his replacement had an immediate impact as Tom Clayton broke free and lashed a left foot shot past the helpless Pompey keeper. Boro' managed to squeeze one more before the break as Tom Larner overlapped from the left skilfully rounded the last defender and slotted home to make the half time score 5-0. With the win virtually secure a host of formation changes followed with Lewis Whitehead beginning to dominate from midfield creating chances but he himself was played through by Mark Sones for Boro's sixth with the rain clouds parting and the weather brightening up Pompey Chimes broke through the Boro' back line for the first time in the afternoon but were stopped by a diving save from the solid looking Pete Brazier. The Boro' side did end the game stronger however with winger Lewis Case getting a well deserved second half goal, swiftly followed with a great piece of skill from Conor Mansfield to complete his hattrick 15 minutes from time. Final score: Gosport Borough 8 Portsmouth Chimes 0
