Match report: U14s 'B' v Gosport
Falcons A cool grey day welcomed the Gosport Falcons to HMS Sultan playing fields. The first 10 - 15 minutes of the game saw Borough forcing the Falcons back with attack after attack. Forwards, Matt Bialas and Hayden Alderson were pouncing on any opportunities which came their way, but good goalkeeping and rugged defending kept Borough at bay. On the odd occasion when the Falcons did manage to threaten the Borough goal, centre back’s Pete Sillence and Robert Cairns coolly and calmly dealt with the situation, and played the ball out of danger. On various occasions , Borough came close to scoring , with Matt Bialas , Chris Sones and Sam Procter all having good chances. The second half started much the same as the first, with Borough applying all the pressure. Captain, Dan Holland, and fellow mid-fielder James Drage, now sensed victory, and pushed Borough forward with a renewed determination. With full backs Nathan Lazenbury and Nick Sinclair making overlapping runs down either flank , the pressure on the Falcons goal became too much , and James Drage opened the scoring. Another goal soon followed (Drage's second), and the Falcons crumbled under the relentless pressure. After another quick attack by Borough, Matt Bialas passed the ball to James Drage to complete his hat trick, even though he was faced with an open goal himself. Dominic Martin, playing a defensive midfield role on his debut, enabling wingers, Chris Sones and Jack Samways, to make attacking runs to support the forwards. Jack Samways, after some intelligent play by the midfield came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. The 4th goal came from a corner, taken by the impressive James Drage. As the ball landed in front of the Falcons goal, a panicking Falcons defence knocked the ball into the back of their own net. The 5th and final goal again came from a corner. Centre back Pte Sllence towered over the Falcons defence and headed the ball into the net. Mann of the match: James Drage.
