Match report: U8s 'red' v Cowplain Youth
Published: 5 March 2008

After two recent close league defeats, the U8 reds were keen to show the form they had in the first half of the season.

The first ten minutes saw Boro' go close on three occasions but they were thwarted by some great goalkeeping from the Cowplain keeper.  The Boro' then saw the opportunity to push forward with Jamie Winter pushing up from defence to back up the midfield.  Jamie himself was rewarded with Boro's first goal with a powerful curling corner found its way into the net.

The Boro' midfield trio of Matthew Boudier, Jack Gillen and Rhys Walmsley then ran the game and kept Cowplain on the back foot.  Rhys Warmsley bagged two more goals before half time - the first was a superb half volley which hit the top corner of the net the second was a shot of the post which Rhys turned of the volley past a stranded keeper.

Daniel Toon had an impressive first half in defence and made sure Cowplain's forward was well marked.

The second half saw three substitutions with Matthew Pritchard replace Daniel Toon in defence and Ben Duffin replace Rhys Walmsley in the midfield and Owen Cripps replace Matthew Boudier.

Cowplain were a much improved side in the second half throwing everything forward this was rewarded with a goal after a goal mouth scramble of a corner found a Cowplain boot.

Cowplain kept throwing everything forward and got caught when a great run by Owen Cripps down the wing, was passed back to Jamie Winter who played a lovely ball into Ben Duffin in the Cowplain penalty box.

Ben Duffin then turned two Cowplain defenders to place the ball into the corner of the net.
Ben was unlucky not to bag a hat-trick with two shots going close.

Final Score Gosport Borough 4 Cowplain 1

Matthew Boudier was awarded the first half man of the match award, Ben Duffin was awarded the second half man of the match award and Jack Gillen was awarded manager's man of the match.
