Match report: U8s 'red' v AFC
Portchester 'green' Due to a cancelled game AFC Portchester very kindly offered us a friendly. On a frosty morning we knew the game going to be a close run contest against a well organised Portchester team. The game started well for Portchester, putting The Boro' under lots of early pressure which resulted with Boro' conceding an early goal when a ball came through a packed penalty area and found a Portchester player at the back post. This fired up the Boro' midfield of Rhys Warmsley, Matthew Boudier and Jack Gillen and their determination created a corner for Boro' which Matthew Pritchard played a short pass to Matthew Boudier to fire a low driving shot into the Portchester goal. The rest of the half was an end to end battle with both keepers saving well. First half man of the match was Ben Braithwaite who ut in a solid performance in defence as the first half finished 1-1. The second half saw five changes for The Boro' and a completely different game. With both teams pushing for goals an end to end battle unravelled. Boro' took the lead with a great play when Owen Cripps got the ball on the half way line and took the ball down the wing to fire a cross to which Ben Duffin's outstretched leg just beat the onward goalkeeper. Ben Duffin grabbed his second straight after when Jamie Winter played a defence splitting ball through to see him place it in the corner. Portchester came back when a great free kick went unchecked into the Gosport near post to bring the score back to 3-2. Boro' midfielder Owen Cripps then set up Boro's fourth goal with a great cross from the left wing and found second half man of the match Daniel Toon unmarked as his fired a great shot into the top of the Portchester goal. Porchester then fired an onslaught onto the Boro' defence of Jamie Winter and newcomer Mia Hewitt. Goalkeeper Zach Robinson pulled off numerous great saves and was unlucky when a low driving shot he saved came in of the post to make the score 4-3. Just before the final whistle Boro midfielder Ben Duffin grabbed his hattrick with a fine individual goal. Final score :
