Match report: U8s 'blue' v Gosport Falcons
Published: 9 January 2008

With the team and parents all rested from football from over the Christmas period, it was good to start off the new year with a friendly against Boro’s rivals, the Gosport Falcons.  The sun was shining and the children were raring to go - always the case when they have had a break from footy!  Confidence was high as the last time we played the Falcons we won 13-1.

However, we were up against very different Falcons this time.  The game started with the Falcons in control, playing a good passing game.  Boro' remained in defence for the first 3-4 minutes with Harry Strowger and Ryan Llewellyn getting a lot of action as defenders.  Jake Grant made some superb finger tip saves before the inevitable - Falcons took the lead with some good play.

The Boro' looked disappointed but more focused and from the kick off Sam Vials and Iwan Crofts played some excellent football, passing the ball around and putting in many shots against a strong Falcons keeper.

With the ball being passed so well to the striker time and time again, the first half saw our star striker of the day, Drew Warner put in a first half hattrick giving Boro' a 3-1 lead.

The second half saw a fairly even game with Boro' just keeping the edge and with the Boro' 'keeper taking a break from the net and running circles around people on the pitch.

Chelsie Hay and Thomas Smith kept everything at bay in defence and clearing the ball up to midfield and strike with a strong Ethan Brady scoring a pearler of a goal to give Boro' a 4-1 lead.

Ryan Llewellyn put in some good saves as 'keeper and using his strong boot to clear the ball out.  A meaty challenge from the Falcons defence saw Jake Grant awarded a penalty which rattled of the cross bar and with baited breath it bounced down and over the line for 5-1.

A friendly game played in a friendly atmosphere.  The Falcons manager and team are always a pleasure to play, with the focus being placed on kids enjoying football in a friendly environment.  Cheers to Gary and the Falcons.

Final score : Gosport Borough 5 Gosport Falcons 1

Jake Grant received the man of the match award.
