Match report: U14s 'B' v Hayling
United Hayling United have earned themselves a fierce some reputation this season with some high scoring victories including a 17-1 demolition of AFC. Nelson. So with this in mind, you would expect Borough to enter this game with a certain amount of trepidation. However, this was certainly not the case. Borough were here for a result. Playing a counter attacking 4-5-1 system, Gosport quickly smothered United in midfield and really looked the real deal going forward. Solid defending at the back helped Borough build some devastating attacking moves which left United looking confused and surprised at times. A sweet through ball from captain Dan Holland saw striker Matt Bialas latch onto the ball and bury it in the Hayling goal - much to the surprise and dismay of the home team. Hayling really could not live with Borough's pace and power in the midfield and soon saw the ball cannon back off of their cross bar. Peter Sillence, James Drage and Jack Samways all had efforts cleared off of the line. But just before half time a rare mistake in the Gosport defence saw Hayling back in the game with a deft lob over the rarely tested Harry Randall. The second half saw Hayling pressing for another goal but Borough's defence stood firm. Again, Borough hit the cross bar but the ball would not go in. With ten minutes left Hayling took the lead from a bizarre goal line incident which saw the ball roll along the Borough goal line before being nudged across the line. Borough peppered the Hayling goal with shots and headers but ran out of time. The opposition manager admitted that Borough had been "robbed" and that his team were very lucky to get all three points. An outstanding performance by every single player in a Borough shirt.
Final score: Hayling United
