Match report: U8s 'blue' v Denmead On a sunny Sunday morning down on our home Monkton pitch, the Boro turned out confident and fit ready for the home battle against a strong Denmead Youth side. Boro started off slowly, letting the visitor’s striker, take the ball around 2 players and hitting the back of the net 0-1. Boro’s heads stayed up despite the early goal, and from then on controlled the game. Ethan Brady then scored a firing ball past the Denmead keeper, hitting the top corner of the net, the keeper stood no chance. 1-1. Denmead's pace quickly caught up and then scored another to take them back to the lead at 2-1, to spite solid defending from Harry Strowger. Riley Braggington then equalised from a stunning 3 pass move from the kick off, from Riley to Drew Warner, to Iwan Crofts who then crossed it back into the box For Riley to expertly finish. Boro were awarded a penalty which was struck well by Ryan Llewelyn, which was expertly saved from the Denmead keeper, then Drew Warner trickled a goal over the line to take the lead once more 3-2. Ethan Brady scored once again, from a scorching shot, again in the corner of the net, passed from Sam Viles and once again set up from Iwan Crofts. Strong keeping and defending from Jake Grant, Chelsie Hay and Thomas Smith kept the score down and in our favour. 4-2. In the dying stages, Boro were careless in the box and gave away a penalty, which was struck perfectly from the Denmead number 6, Jake Grant got his fingers to the ball, however sometimes even our keeper (probably the best keeper in the league) has to let goals in! Strong performances throughout the game, from all involved, Iwan setting up 3 out of 4 goals, Jake in the nets, Harry and Chelsie in defence, Drew, Thomas, Sam, in the midfield, Ryan and Riley up at strike, however nothing could match the day’s performance from Boro’s most improved player Ethan Brady who thoroughly deserves today’s man of the match. Final score: Gosport Borough 4 Denmead 3
