So close at Ranvilles Tournament
After play was delayed by 30 minutes, Boro' went on to win two and draw two of their group games and top their table on goal difference from Locks Heath Lions. Boro met Crofton Saints 'blues' in the semi-final - winning the game 1-0 - with Locks Heath Lions facing Pickwick Youth in the other semi. Boro met Locks Heath Lions in the final and both teams played excellent football - the game was how a final should be. Gosport were 1-0 up at the interval but Locks Heath equalised in the second half and the teams were still tied at full time. The teams could not be separated after extra time so the final was to be decided by the dreaded taking of penalties. All the players looked nervous and both teams had penalties saved or missed before it came down to sudden death with Locks Heath Lions coming out the eventual winners. Boro' however played very well and should be very proud of their achievement. Well done boys. Gosport Borough were also represented at the Rangers Tournament by the U8 'reds' who also reached the final before going down to Warsash Wasps. The tournament had started badly with 'keeper Zach Robinson picking up an injury in a freak accident which left Zach heading to casualty. This left Boro with a dilemma with Matthew Boudier taking over the goalkeeping duties - leaving the team with no substitutes. Boro' got off to a flyer with a 2-0 win against Gosport FC with Red Jamie Winter and newcomer Liam Gouge providing the goals for Boro. The second game saw a tightly fought 0-0 draw with the unknown Pace Puma and the third game saw a 1-0 win over tournament hosts Ranvilles Rangers with Rhys Warmsley scoring the winner. Boro’s Fourth game saw an end-to-end game which ended 0-0 against Havant & Waterlooville 'red' - a result mainly due to some great defensive play from Reece Patterson and Jamie Winter. The semi–final saw Boro face Havant & Waterlooville 'blues'. Both teams went close until Boro' took the lead just before the break with a great goal from Ben Duffin. The second half saw Havant really push for the equaliser but Gosport held firm and just before the final whistle Jamie Winter scored a fine goal from the half way line. Boro' met eventual winners Warsash Wasps in the final where Gosport found the pace of the game too much on their tired legs but gave it there all. Players and parents were proud of the achievements on a great first tournament of the summer.
