Great goals by Owen Roundell and Pat Suraci give Boro victory

Owen Roundell and Pat Suraci outside the box goals gave Boro a 2-1 victory over Lymington Town at Privett Park.

In the first-half Boro’ dominated both possession and chances, and it was Roundell who finally put Gosport ahead.

However, in the second-half things weren’t so simple, a much tighter game meant Gosport struggled to create chances and Lymington equalised. Boro though were able to fight back and re-took the lead through Pat Suraci.

Boro will hope to take momentum into their final pre-season home game on Tuesday August 3rd as Boro XI take on League Two side Forest Green XI. Their final pre-season game is against Hungerford Town away on Saturday and the season starts on August 14 at home to Poole Town.

In the 7th minute, Boro created the first chance of the match. A corner from the right was cleared out to Brad Tarbuck on the edge of the box. He touched it down using his chest but his half-volley went just wide.

There were lots of half-chances created by Boro, nothing ever to threaten the Lymington keeper until the 30th minute. The ball was picked up on the edge of the box by Roundell who touched it out of his feet and shot. His curling effort was just out of reach of the goalkeeper and flew into the top-right corner.

Just before half-time, Ryan Woodford almost doubled the lead for Boro. A corner from the right was floated into the box, where Woodford rose taller than anybody but his guided header fell into the arms of the keeper.

In the 56th minute, substitute keeper Ryan Hall was forced to make a brilliant save. A mistake at the back meant that Lymington were through on goal, however were denied by the feet of Hall.

However a minute later, Lymington equalised through the resulting corner thanks to the head of Bradley Gale.

Boro’ though fought their way back into the match and thanks to Suraci were able to regain the lead in the 71st minute. The ball fell to Suraci in a similar position to Roundell’s goal, this time though Suraci’s curling shot flew into the bottom-right corner.

Eight minutes later Boro almost got another. A good passing move put Harvey Rew through on the left-hand side but could only manage to put his shot high and wide. It didn’t matter though as Boro were able to hold on and earn victory against Lymington Town.
