Shaun Gale gives his thoughts after Boro' exit the FA Cup with a 2-0 defeat to Yate Town.

Gosport have once again failed to make it past the second qualifying round of the FA Cup having not done so for the seventh season in a row.

Going down to 10 men in just the ninth minute after a red card for Elliot Wheeler, Boro' held firm until the 57th minute when Yate took the lead from the penalty spot through David Sims-Burgess.

The Yate striker doubled his and his sides advantage in the 71st minute when the hosts capitalised on their extra man to seal victory, despite falling to defeat at Privett Park just a week previous.

Gale remains proud of his side and the spirit the club showed today. "What I can’t fault and what I do know about the group again today is that they gave their absolute everything to the cause and I thank the fans that came along again and backed us."

"What we really didn’t want was to be out of the FA Cup. To have a cup run you need a bit of luck and to play with 10 men for 80 odd minutes is always going to be very difficult but we stuck to it."

Boro' struggled to create chances but were also able to limit Yate's efforts on goal with Albert White only called into action a handful of times.

Nicky Dembele caused the hosts' defence a number of problems and his pace and skill saw the ball fall to Joe Lea a minute into the second half for Boro's best opportunity to score.

However, the writing seemed on the wall after the sending off as Gosport were never in control long enough to make a decisive difference.

"When you lose someone after 10 minutes and you go down to 10 men it’s always going to be a very difficult afternoon. The sending off changes the game massively but its the manner of the sending off."

"It’s poor on our behalf, it’s just naive. A mix up, no communication. It costs you and from that it’s always going to be uphill. It’s a mistake that’s been made, Elliot knows and he’s held his hands up but it is a costly one as we’ve gone out of the FA Cup and we’re disappointed."

"Good luck to Yate, they go through. We’re disappointed the run we’ve had comes to an end. It’s disappointing because if we’d have had 11 players on the pitch I think we’d have got something out of today."

Attention turns to Wednesday as Gosport face Sholing in the FA Hampshire Cup at Privett Park. Kick off is 19:45.
