Our Dev Side So Close To Comeback Of All Comeback’s!

No game for our first team yesterday, they are preparing this week for a quarter final encounter against AFC Varsity. They remain the only team to of beaten varsity in the league, with a semi final spot at stake this promises to be a thrilling encounter.

Our reserves hosted AFC Varsity Res who are a lovely team and we wish them well for the remainder of the season and thank them for a great game.

Manager Robyn Standley-Gray reports below;

Today we welcomed afc varsity reserves to our home. From the moment the whistle blew for kick off we battled hard, closing players down and pushing to keep varsity in their half. When varsity did slip through our defence after a tackle they were gifted with a free kick to which they scored, wasn’t anything our keeper could of done. This took us into half time 1-0 down.

2nd half the girls went back out eager and still battling and we had some great passing going on. It just wasn't our day today, we didn't find the back of the net but varsity did go on to score making the final score 2-0 to varsity. Unbelievably proud of the girls again today , they were non stop, kept battling, kept their heads up and had fun while doing it, couldnt of asked for any more from them.

Today was also Sam Webbs last game with us for the season as shes having an operation, we're going to miss you at the back and hope you have a speedy recovery. Sam has progressed from the development team which shows the pathway is there at our club. We’re incredibly proud of Sam.

We would like to thank varsity for being such a lovely team to play and wish them luck with the rest of the season.

Captains comments: ‘Today we played a very good team who gave us a good battle and played proper football. The girls battled nonstop and never let their energy falter. We played some wonderful football but unfortunately couldn’t quite manage to get the win. On to the next”

Player of the match: Robyn Standley-Gray, fear not Robyn did not vote for herself this was a team vote. Robyn played with complete calmness and distributed the ball really well after making timely tackles in defence.

Our development headed down the road to face AFC Stubbington in a cup encounter. Coach Rob Hickmott reports below:

In the first half, we were caught out by long balls played over the top, which stubbington finished really well. They had young players and were quick, and we found ourselves 4-0 down in the first half.

HT Stubb 4-0 Boro Dev

In the second half, we had our defence line sit a bit deeper, and it worked and we had some really great passing combinations being made. We got a corner which was taken by Sarah Rodwell and it was knocked in by Izzy and ten mins later we had a had free kick taken by Sarah Rodwell and it went into the bottom corner. Then 5mins later Gemma crossed the ball into the box and Sophie scored and that was 3 goals in 15mins. The ladies gave it 110% today and kept their heads up right until the final whistle. It ended 6-3 to stubbington but what a game it was.

Player of the match was Claire Carstens with 4 goal line Clearances, putting her body on the line to stop the ball from going in multiple times, she was amazing today.
