The home side took the lead almost immediately before goals from Dan Wooden and Luke Hallett put Boro in front but a brace from Jaden Thompson-Brissett and a late strike from Jordan Edwards secured the win for the hosts.
Chesham got off to the best possible start when Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick headed home unmarked from just yards out after just 42 seconds. A long punt forward from kick-off was headed out for a Chesham corner by Ryan Woodford and having had just a handful of touches of the ball, they found themselves in front.
Boro’ got over their shaky start to proceedings and settled into the game. Ashton Leigh’s speculative effort from outside the area failed to test the Chesham goal and Matt Briggs saw a shot blocked after a neat fake shot sent a home defender into a new dimension.
Chesham almost got a second when a neat move between their attackers resulted in them smashing the post, however, the assistant referee’s flag was up and it wouldn’t have counted either way.
Gosport found the equaliser when a fantastic switch of play from Matt Paterson found Harry Kavanagh with acres of space down the right. His shot was then guided home by Dan Wooden from close range.
The main body of home fans thought they’d found another way in front just before the half-time whistle when, after a goalmouth scramble, the ball whizzed inches past the post, looking as though it had found the bottom corner.
Boro’ got over their slow start after Luke Hallett gave them the advantage just before the hour mark. Ashton Leigh’s corner delivery was right into the sweet spot and the Forest Green loanee rose highest to head home.
But Gosport’s lead didn’t last long. Jaden Thompson-Brissett collected the ball on the right and cutting in, his left-footed shot found the bottom corner.
As the substitutions began to flow ahead of a busy Easter weekend for both sides, the game fizzled out a bit but on the 83rd minute, Thompson-Brissett sparked some life back into it with his second of the afternoon and his second from outside the box.
Chesham then made sure of their win just five minutes later. Jordan Edwards was fed through, he beat the offside trap, rounded Fynn Talley and slotted home to add the home side’s fourth of the afternoon.
