Brad Tarbuck goal gives victory to Boro' against National League South opposition

Brad Tarbuck’s goal seals victory for Boro’ against National League South side Hungerford Town at Privett Park.

Boro’ got off to a great start in the first-half with the team putting the Hungerford defence under plenty of pressure and should have taken the lead through Dan Wooden.

The second-half was at much slower pace with both teams making plenty of changes, however with ten minutes left Tarbuck was able to slide the ball underneath the keeper and give Boro’ victory.

It is Boro’ first pre-season victory within 90 minutes, their other win coming in a penalty shoot-out against AFC Portchester. Gosport's next match is on Saturday away at Havant & Waterlooville.

The first chance of the match went to Gosport. In the fourth minute, Boro’ put the Hungerford defence under plenty of pressure and Wooden won the ball. He passed it to Rory Williams, who on the edge of the box, put his low-driven shot just wide.

Six minutes later, Gosport won a free-kick from 25 yards, however Pat Suraci’s effort didn’t get enough bend and was straight at the keeper.

In the 17th minute, Ellis Grant’s goal-kick was headed down on the halfway line by Wooden to Tarbuck. He put the ball through Suraci, who cut back and his curling shot went just wide.

In the 35th minute, new-signing Matt Briggs charged forward, skipping past three defenders and back-heeled the ball to Tarbuck. He crossed it from the right to Wooden, who was in the box unmarked, but headed wide.

The second-half was a more even contest and plenty of changes meant that both teams struggled to create chances.

The match looked to be heading to a goalless draw, however, in the 81st minute, Williams on the left chipped the ball over the Hungerford defence to Tarbuck. Boro’ winger was one-on-one with the keeper and calmly slotted the ball underneath the keeper to give Gosport the win.
