For the first half an hour of the game, the flight path over the Earlsmead stadium was busier than the proceedings taking place several thousand feet below. Neither side were able to grab a hold of the game as the match was largely played in the middle third of the pitch.
Then, on the half hour mark, Theo Widdrington had the first chance of the game. After being set on the edge of the box, he beat his man and forced a good save out of Josh Strizovic in the Harrow goal.
They say chances are like a bus; wait for ages and then two come at once. From the resulting corner, Brad Tarbuck received the ball on the left wing and after cutting inside, his shot was safely over the bar.
Gosport thought they took the lead in the 36th minute when Nicky Dembele cannoned a shot off the crossbar and - according to the referee - bounced off the goalline and out. Frank Lampard 2.0…
The second half started much brighter than the first with a series of chances within the opening minutes. First Dan Wooden saw his shot on the turn easily gathered by Strizovic and within a minute up the other end, George Moore fizzed a shot past Bert White’s post.
Harrow had their biggest chance to open the scoring in the 56th minute when Frank Keita somehow missed an open goal from a yard out. A looping cross somehow went over the towering Matt Casey and Keita at the back post fluffed his lines.
The hosts then hit the post in the 62nd minute. A corner from the right was flicked on at the near post but White was able to push the ball onto the post/crossbar with a brilliant reaction save.
Boro almost punished Harrow on the break when Nicky Dembele broke through but he was forced out to a wide angle and his shot was saved when he perhaps should have squared the ball to the rushing support.
The hosts then took the lead just minutes later with a fantastic strike from the ever-dangerous Imran Uche. Afforded too much time on the ball he dribbled forward from the halfway line and his fierce strike was too powerful for White.
Tarbuck almost levelled soon after. Left alone at the far post, his shot was saved by the foot of Strizovic in what was the last chance for a while.
Harrow sat on their lead and were able to control proceedings and Gosport failed to threaten until the closing minutes. Billie Busari and Rory Williams came close to finding a very late leveller but both of their efforts were blocked.
