Gosport back to winning ways following win against Wimborne.
Having come off a 1-1 draw away to Yate Town, Gosport went into the game looking to build on the momentum of two games unbeaten to use that against a strong Wimborne side. Tim Sills’ side (the man who booked Gosport’s trip to Wembley a decade ago), had picked up eleven points from six games, compared to Gosport’s five points.
To be honest there wasn’t real standout chance right until the thirty-seven minute mark. Good build up play in the middle of the park resulted with Dan Wooden, 10 yards inside the Wimborne half, flicking a ball forward into Trevor Caborn. The ex-Winchester forward, got onto the end of the pass, taking a shot from distance which Cam Plain had to parry away.
Ernaldo Krasniqi made a good run just before the break which stretched from the half way line, to twenty yards outside of Plain’s goal. Left of centre, the midfielder faked a shot, leaving Billy Walker sliding helplessly in front of the Gosport man, before Krasniqi drove a low-driven shot straight down the throat of Plain.
Half-Time | Gosport Borough 0-0 Wimborne Town.
Gosport did have the ball in the back of the visitors’ net on fifty-three minutes when a floated ball over the Wimborne defence found Charlie Gunson in an offside position. Although the Nu10 passed the ball into the back of the net, the goal was rightly chalked off.
Ten minutes later Gosport came close through a corner. The set-piece was drilled in towards the front post which Dan Wooden, did well to get under the cross, guiding a header at goal. The effort was just a little too high, colliding with the crossbar.
Gosport finally broke the deadlock on the seventy-fifth minute, when Trevor Caborn won possession down the right. In space he rapidly took possession up the field to the right-hand side of the 18 yard box, and when running into trouble, he simply shrugged off his defender and delivered an inch-perfect cross into substitute Rafael Ramos. Having been on the pitch for a matter of minutes, the Portuguese forward blasted home for the opener.
Fortunately for the home side, very little action followed this with it finishing:
