Gosport Borough 3 - 0 Hanwell Town

By Guest Reporter - Keira Godwin

Gosport Borough conjured up an outstanding performance, securing a crucial 3-0 win against Hanwell Town as they edge closer to league safety.

The boys in yellow and blue took an early lead through Charlie Wassmer. Rory Williams passed a deep ball to Wassmer who confidently tapped it past Hanwell’s defence with the side of his foot, to put Gosport into the lead.

Tensions rose following an off-the-ball incident involving Bradley Tarbuck and the Geordie’s Daniel Carr - both shown yellow cards as a reprimand.

Gosport doubled their lead when Nnamdi Nwachuku expertly kept the ball in play near the corner flag before he crossed to Wooden, who slotted the ball past the Hanwell goalkeeper Beasant.

The home side pressed on for a third goal before the break, whilst the Geordies began showing signs of desperation. A deflected goalbound effort rebounding off the post was as close as they came, but Gosport stayed on the front foot and continued to apply pressure.

Half time Gosport 2-0 Hanwell

Hanwell made three substitutions at the restart, a clear shift to an attacking formation. Their renewed energy forced an early save from Adam Parkes as the visitors searched for a lifeline.

However, it was Gosport who struck again in the 58th minute. Nwachuku collected a short corner and fired a low shot through a crowd of blue shirts, into the net extending the home side’s lead to 3-0.

A costly mistake from Tarbuck later allowed two chances on goal, Parkes was kept on his toes but managed two saves to preserve his clean sheet.

The home team were handed a golden opportunity for a fourth goal in the 78th minute when they won a penalty. Asher Yearwood stepped up, however his short run up led to a scuffed ball which fell comfortably into the arms of Beasant.

In the end, it was huge victory for Gosport, whose 3-0 win showed signs of improvement and marked an important step forward to securing safety in the Southern Premier League.
