Bracknell Town 4 - 0 Gosport Borough

Report from James McIntosh

Disappointment at Bottom Meadow following defeat to a relentless Bracknell side.

Going into this one, Gosport had come from a 3-1 loss to league leaders Merthyr, as for Bracknell they had lost their previous game to second placed - AFC Totton, 2-0.
With four changes to the previous Gosport side against Merthyr, and with new signing Chevron McLean making his starting line up debut.

The last time we played the Robins it ended in a seven goal thriller, Gosport were victorious by winning 4-3. You could say today’s start to the game made for that instantly engaging start as the hosts took the lead. Bowerman just outside the box smashing a shot into the far corner, beating Parkes to give the home side the early lead.

BORO’ short of confidence almost looked stunned after conceding, and they would go onto conceding another twenty minute later.
A ball worked down the left eventually found Bracknell’s goalscorer Bowerman who took aim at goal. Adam Parkes made the save but Rollinson followed up the rebound, tapping home to make it two.

This second goal injected a little more desire into Gosport eager to get back a goal.
Bradley Tarbuck from twenty yards out striking a shot towards goal, dipping to force Eacott into making his first save.

Somehow Gosport didn’t score just before the break. Good hold up play from Neachuku outside the 18 yard box saw the striker switch it to Yearwood inside the box, before the midfielder was brought down in the box. Nwachuku aware of the situation, snatched the ball slotting a low-driven shot, beating Eacott but Burden managed to hook the shot off the line.

Half-Time: Bracknell 2-0 Gosport

At the start of the second interval Harvey Solley came on to make his debut, replacing Jake Cope.

Like I alluded to earlier, it definitely looked like Gosport were short of confidence throughout the whole game. Thirty minutes after the restart, Yearwood, a player who normally loves to shoot at goal, instead threw himself to the floor to try and win a penalty. The referee saw this giving a yellow to the attacker for simulation.

Unfortunately Bowerman once again frustrating Gosport’s defence. Fluid passing between the striker and other Bracknell attackers saw Bowerman through on goal once again. With an emphatic finish Bowerman struck past Parkes, to earn himself a brace.

Five minutes would be added onto the end of the game, perhaps giving Gosport a chance to get a consolation but it was the home side who added the cherry to the top of the cake. Dan Roberts in the third minute of added time with a smart finish scooped the ball over Adam Parkes with it flying into the back of the net, to make it four.

Full-Time: Bracknell 4-0 Gosport

This now firmly puts Gosport in the relegation battle…. with Winchester and Poole both picking up points today. Next Saturday we are home to Wimborne in a game which could now have huge ramifications, so we’ll see you then. But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
