Gosport secure first home point of the season after a six goal thriller with Basingstoke
Gosport gave away a penalty early on after Allen laid a lovey through ball into Gallagher who eventually was brought down by keeper Evans. Nwachuku putted the ball into the bottom corner to give the Dragons the lead.
Twenty minutes later, Basingstoke added another. Evans going into no man’s land, punched a ball into uncharted territory. Reid managed to get on the end of the clearance, seeing the attacker bicycle kick it into an open net.
Five minutes left to play of the first half saw Dan Wooden flick a ball into the path of Alfie Stanley. With the former Pompey-man passing it into the bottom right corner to grab a late goal.
Half-Time: Gosport 1-2 Basingstoke
Basingstoke continued their havoc going into the second half, winning their second penalty in the opening minute of the half. Williams pushed Reid to the floor with the referee immediately blowing up. Despite Evans diving the right way, the effort squeezed into the bottom corner, making it 3-1to the visitors.
Asher Yearwood offered a glimmer of hope in the left hand flank after laying a lovely cross against the face of goal, finding a diving Dan Wooden who nodded one home to grab a late goal back.
Against all the odds BORO’ found a last ditch equaliser with three minutes left on the clock. Substitute Kavanagh floated a deep corner towards the far post picking out Stanley. Tapping one past Grant, gave the attacker his second and Gosport’s equaliser.
Full-Time: Gosport 3-3 Basingstoke
Despite only taking away a point, it feels like a win thanks to the two late goals. Hopefully this will give the boys a massive mental boost going forward and we travel to Sholing on Bank Holiday Monday, so we’ll see you then. But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
