Plymouth Parkway 2 - 0 Gosport Borough

Report by James McIntosh

Gosport sustain narrow defeat in third consecutive away game.

BORO’ made the 300+ mile trip to Plymouth Parkway to play a team which despite boasting impressive results against the likes of Havant & Waterloovile at Bolitho Park, still find themselves only points away from the relegation zone going into this game.

The visitors showed great tenacity early on, with one chance seeing Brad Tarbuck on the fifteen minute mark slice a volley wide from just outside the eighteen-yard box.

Eight minutes later Plymouth won a ball inside the BORO’ half. Parkway Talisman Hall laid it out to Love-Holmes, cutting to his right foot before lashing wide.

Gosport giving away possession again just before half time, saw a long ball distributed to that man Hall again. Continuing to be a thorn in the Gosport back line, the attacker skipped past two BORO’ players before striking a shot which sailed past former teammate Adam Parkes.

Half-Time: Plymouth Parkway 0-0 Gosport

Similar to the start of the first half Gosport had their best spell of the game within the first quarter of this second interval. Almost replicating the start of the game, Tarbuck from a similar distance to his first shot of the game, swiped a shot a whisker wide.

Gosport did have the ball in the back of the net midway through the second half when skipper Rory Williams launched in a deep ball skimming the head of Dan Wooden. There were strong appeals for handball but before anything was decided Yearwood hacked a ball in from close-range. Unfortunately for Gosport, the goal would not stand and appeals for handball were upheld.

Frustratingly for the Hampshire-side Gosport would go on to have the ball in the back of their own net not too long after. Love-Holmes with a shot at goal…. forced a save from Parkes, but the rebound fell to Hall who rocketed home to make it one nil.

Minutes later the Devon side killed off the game when assist maker turned goalscorer Love-Holmes got on the end of a floated cross. Heading past Parkes in an emphatic finish to cushion the lead.

This goal was enough to see out the game with it finishing:

Full-Time: Plymouth Parkway 2-0 Gosport

I think it was clear to say the three consecutive away games have taken their toll, not to mention the long bus journey. Luckily for Gosport they will have a week’s rest before they next play Chertsey at home, so we’ll see you then! But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
