Report by James McIntosh
Dorchester come from behind to snatch a late point at the AEI Stadium.
With this being the only game in the Southern League last night, it gave Gosport a chance to catch up on some missed games - playing three less than all the other teams in our league. As for Dorchester they have had an impressive start, sitting in sixth (Anything other than a loss would move them up to fourth).
Gosport couldn’t have asked for a much better start, three minutes into the game and the hosts’ broke the deadlock. Alfie Stanley was fed the ball high up field, which allowed the striker to have a crack at goal. Driving a shot past Benfield to make it twelve goals this season for the striker. 1-0
Things went from good to great when little over ten minutes later we made it two. Danny Hollands from 20 yards fancied a himself a goal, with the Ex-Cherry midfielder rifling into the far corner to cushion our advantage. 2-0
Ten minutes before the break Adam Parkes was forced into making his first save of the night. Following good pressure, Dorchester’s Koszela was given an opportunity to shoot from point-blank range. Parkes did excellent to deflect the shot and deny the goal.
Four minutes later the Dorset side came close again. This time a corner caused damage in the BORO’ box and eventually saw Tom Bragg from 12 yards out blast over the crossbar in a real wasted opportunity from the visitors.
Equally Gosport nearly got a late goal before the break. With less than a minute of the half left to play, a through ball sent Alfie Stanley in on goal. With the striker shooting straight down the throat of Benfield.
Two minutes into added time, Dorchester halved the deficit by clawing a goal back. With a tight angle inside the Gosport box, Buse blasted past Parkes to make it 2-1 at the break.
Half-Time: Gosport 2-1 Dorchester
Setting up a nervy second interval, Gosport brought on some new faces - one being Jamar Smith making his Gosport debut, having signed from Poole this week.
If I’m being honest the first forty minutes after the re-start saw no real concrete chances, that was until the 87’th minute.
A move down the left allowed for Pardoe to whip in a cross across the face of goal, meeting Spetch who taps home from short range to level things up and secure his first of the season.
Four minutes of added time were added on but it finished:
Full-Time: Gosport 2-2 Dorchester
This late comeback for Dorchester moves them up to fourth and Gosport up to sixteenth with two games in hand. Admittedly this scoreline was the fair result for both teams, but now Gosport will be looking to return to winning ways in Trophy action against Tonbridge Angels this Saturday, so we’ll see you then. But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
