Gosport Back To Winning Ways After Coming From Behind - Watch Pat & Joe’s Post Match Interview

Match Report by James McIntosh

BORO’ beat Tiverton 2-1, thanks to goals from Danny Hollands and Harry Medway!

Looking at both sides - fans could recognise this could be a very tasty clash! With new management from Tiverton seeing the side pull off some good results such as the draw against Walton & Hersham last week! Recently, results haven’t favoured Gosport with late goals securing draws and losses!

It was Tiverton with the first big chance! A good run from Thompson allowed for the attacker to get a shot on goal. Drilling it straight into Steward!

Gosport came closer to breaking the deadlock with a shot skimming the crossbar! Barsa managed to play a wonderful ball into the box, falling to the head of Charlie Wassmer. The defender got a good connection with the ball which saw the ball skim the crossbar!

Despite the good chance, the away team would get the opener! A mistake at the back allowed for Dugan to intercept a ball. A through ball separated Garside from Jordan allowing him to drive a shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-0

Following the goal, Steward would be needed to deny the second chance from Tiverton! Thompson fired a shot at range, forcing Steward to dive; getting a hand to the ball allowing the keeper to deflect the effort!

Barsa even had a couple of chances before the half concluded. Both shots were from distance, with one being fired over the crossbar and the other being dragged wide of the post!

Half time: Gosport 0-1 Tiverton

Unlike past games, Gosport didn’t start the second half how they planned. Thompson (in the BORO’ box) played a ball into Salmon yards out from goal. The attacker somehow missed the shot, slicing wide of the post!

Alike the weather, a storm was brewing! And ten minutes in the second half, Gosport found their equaliser! A BORO’ corner was poorly dealt with as one of the Tiverton defender’s played a ball into Hollands. With the midfielder smashing a shot past Williams to get the equaliser!

It was Thompson yet again who broke into the BORO’ box. Dicing a shot towards the bottom corner, it forced steward to get down low and collect the ball despite the ball nearly beating him!

Debutee - Akpan came close to opening his BORO’ goal account after a smart ball from Wassmer played him in behind the Tiverton defence. A good touched allowed him to cushion the ball, and the former Chelsea man finished the attack by megging the keeper, with the effort going just wide!

From a similar position from Hollands’ goal, Scrimshaw was the next player to have a crack from that position! Driving a shot into the bottom corner, it forced a good save from Williamson and the score stood 1-1!

Well, that was until the next Gosport corner! A well-worked corner allowed a ball to be delivered into Wassmer. Heading backwards the ball fell to fellow defender Harry Medway who smashed it home to give us the lead!

Tiverton really should have put the teams on level terms with the next chance. Thompson causing trouble again, saw a ball curled into the BORO’ box nearly finding a diving Bath who narrowly missed the ball!

Next came up the moment Gosport fans feared - additional time! And yet again, the home fans had chances to fear with the big opportunity coming from Bath. In the left hand channel, Allen knuckleballed an effort into Bath who slotted the shot wide. Nonetheless the flag went up for offside and the full time whistle was shortly to come after!

Full time: Gosport 2-1 Tiverton

A big three points collected, and another tough opposition defeated! Up next we travel to Beaconsfield on Tuesday night. But final words from me, UP THE BORO!

Gosport’s Starting XI
Steward, Akpan, Jordan, Wassmer, Medway, Tarbuck, Hollands, Cumberbatch, Barsa, Scrimshaw, Wooden
