Gosport Borough 0 - 2 Yate Town

Report by James McIntosh

Two second half goals are enough to see Yate Town beat Gosport.

Two changes were made from the Gosport side that lost on Bank Holiday Monday. Hisham Kasimu replaced Tayo Singerr up top and Charlie Wassmer returned from injury to start in place of Jordan Stepney. Zak Sharp and Rory Williams were also back in the squad following lengthy spells out. Two of our under 18’s were also on the bench, Ben Gray and Jack Bagnall.

The first fifth-teen minutes saw Yate Town hold most of the possession, yet not really engineering anything from it. Monks came the closest in this patch when he fired a vigorous shot just wide.

Midway in the first half Gosport were dealt a hammer blow when Jordan Ngalo went down injured. Having spent five or so minutes on the floor in real discomfort, he was forced to come off …and was replaced by Ethan Taylor.

BORO’ came the closest of the two sides to taking the lead in the last ten minutes of the first half.
On thirty five minutes Hisham Kasimu from left of the penalty box pulled a pass back to Dan Wooden inside the area. He was well marked by the Yate defence who blocked off the angle to shoot and prevented Wooden from getting across his shot.

Although they couldn’t deny Kasimu from taking a shot with two minutes left of the 45’ when he drifted inside and drove a powerful left-footed effort at goal. The shot sailed just over, rounding up a pretty dull first half of football.

Two minutes after the re-start Yate broke the deadlock. An attack from the Bluebells resulted with a ball floated into the Gosport box which was met by BORO’s Lucas Thomas who went flying in to punch it away. Josh Bennett got straight onto the clearance, cushioning it with his chest before passing it into an open net.

A few minutes later it got worse for Gosport when the home side were reduced to ten men. Harvey Rew collided with Rex Mannings which saw the latter go into an adverting board. The referee saw this as dangerous play and showed Rew a straight red.

Gosport reacted well to going down to ten but failed to create any chances of their own, partly down to being a player down but also because of a well organised structure built into the visitors’ game plan.

Glenn Howes gave southern league debuts to Ben Gray and Jack Bagnall from our 18’s side which was the only real highlight from the game Gosport-wise.

Yate Town killed off the game in added time when Jackson tenaciously kept the ball and worked his way past Ethan Taylor before passing forward to James Taylor and from the right-hand side he sent in a low-cross which met substitute Henry Sady open in the Gosport box. Sady, who was only on the field of play for a minute after being subbed on, kept his composure and slid a shot past Thomas to cushion the lead.

Full-Time | Gosport Borough 0-2 Yate Town

Admittedly it was a game which lacked any real thrill or entertainment. Now just the three games to go, two away days before finishing the season at home to Plymouth Parkway. We’ll see you next for those games, but final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
