Mat Report - James McIntosh
Gloucester ease past Gosport in ruthless performance.
Having beaten Poole convincingly at the weekend, we were hoping that sort of performance could have been replicated against visitors Gloucester.
City had come off an 10 game unbeaten streak, eyeing up a spot in the playoffs.
The ‘Tigers’ showed their relentless form taking just seven minutes to take the lead. Former Hungerford man Elis Watts did well to skip past new signing Harrison Bunga before striking a right footed effort in towards the near post to give the visitors the lead.
Midway inside the first half …it got worse for Gosport as Gloucester made it two.
Talisman Watts caused further damage as the goalscorer worked his way into the BORO’ box before being tripped by Wassmer. Up stood Brandon Smalley, firing past Parkes to make it two.
Half-Time: Gosport 0-2 Gloucester City
Starting the new half we made two changes, Fin Walsh-Smith and Dan Wooden on for Charlie Gunson and Hamilton Bunga. These changes added a catalyst energising the Hampshire-based side. Asher Yearwood having Gosport’s first chance of the game blazing over the crossbar from distance.
Gloucester did have the ball in the back of the net after Pinchard teed the ball for Watts with the goalscorer tapping past Parkes. Luckily for BORO’ the attacker was in an offside position, ruling out the goal.
On the seventieth minute Charlie Wassmer whipped in a fantastic cross into Asher Yearwood with the attacker rifling a powerful shot at Bell. Showing great reflexes the City keeper made a good save to keep his’ clean sheet alive.
Although Asher couldn’t find his goal this way he found it in the final minute of normal time. A ball fell kindly into the legs of Asher Yearwood. Composed under pressure, Yearwood rifles a rocket to give us a goal back.
Five minutes were added on, there would be time for a goal… But no for Gosport! Pincahrd playing a pass high upfield should have been collected by Parkes but slipping at the vital moment saw Crossbie take the ball past the keeper before passing one in the back of an empty net to make it three.
Full-Time: Gosport 1-3 Gloucester City
A disappointing evening for BORO’ as Gloucester continue climbing the table. Up next for Hollands’ Gosport is an away trip to Marlow, so we’ll see you then. But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
