Hanwell Town 2 - 1 Gosport Borough

Report by James McIntosh

Hanwell come from behind to nick the three points from Gosport.

Glenn Howes’ side came into the game in impressive recent form winning their last two on the bounce. Despite being in the drop zone Hanwell had picked up some crucial points in their last two games as well, a win away to Tiverton and a point at home to inform-Poole Town.

The first twenty minutes of this clash consisted of both sides having spells of possession but doing very little with it. Hanwell had a half opportunity on ten minutes when Joe Wilson darted across the penalty box, leaving the ball behind for Woodcock to have a shot. An outstretched leg from Benny Read deflected it onto a Hanwell body and out for a Gosport goal kick.

It was Gosport who drew the first blood ten minutes later. Michael Fernadnes charged down the right flank and squared a pass into Ethan Taylor inside the host’s penalty area. The striker unselfishly carried the pass onto Luke Cook who went for goal but was denied by a diving Sam Beasant. Fortunately the rebound dropped to Hisham Kasimu who acrobatically volleyed home for his third goal in two games. 0 - 1

Ethan Taylor and Benny Read both had ambitious strikes from twenty-five yards out, sail over the bar as shots were being bombarded at the Geordies goal.

They nearly doubled their lead just before the break when Jordan Ngalo teamed up with Kasimu in the centre of the park. Ngalo managed to charge down a ball and deflect it forward in behind the Hanwell defence. The midfielder left the opportunity for the goalscorer who was left one-on-one with Beasant. The goalkeeper stood his ground and got down low to his left to deny Kasimu his second.

Half-Time | Hanwell Town 0-1 Gosport Borough.

Gosport seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second 45 and it allowed for Hanwell to be given a passage back into the game. Admittedly Gosport resolutely defended the majority of the second half but ultimately failed to stop two key set-pieces on seventy minutes

The first set-piece was a free-kick on the right hand side, midway inside the Gosport half. A well taken right-footed delivery was flung in towards the six yard box, requiring Henry Blackledge to make an initial stop, in doing so pushing it into Cal Woodcock who was there to bundle in from close range. 1 - 1

Not too long after the equaliser the comeback was completed, the next goal coming from a corner on the left hand side. Once again the delivery was perfect and found Mohamed Bettamer who powerfully drove home his header. 2 - 1

Gosport did have further chances to try and win themselves a point. Substitute Harry Kavanagh struck a cross straight into Trevor Caborn who chested it for Kasimu to have a crack at goal. The shot took a deflection off Seabrook which carried it out for a corner.

The West London-based side managed to hold onto their lead, with it finishing:

Full-Time | Hanwell Town 2-1 Gosport Borough

A frustrating day for BORO’ who were unraveled by two set-pieces in quick succession of one another. Especially when Gosport had the chances to kill off the game within the first half. Up next a trip to Hungerford, so we’ll see you then. But final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
