Gosport continue unbeaten run in 2025 after another solid display against playoff-pushing Taunton.
Following the midweek win over Bracknell there was a lot of belief in the camp that we were more than capable of getting a result against Taunton.
Having played Taunton in the FA Trophy earlier in the season we recorded an impressive 5-1 victory in which we came from behind…offered fans a little bit of optimism after conceding two minutes into the game. Moulden winning possession inside the Gosport box, drifted a ball through into Rice-Lethaby. Cooley slotting under Parkes opened the scoring at the AEI Stadium. 0 - 1
Twenty minutes later, almost telepathic between Kavanagh and Faniyan as the duo produced some brilliant free flowing football down the right hand channel. The defender later pulled a pass back into Faniyan and with a low-driven shot forced a great save from Gould.
The ‘Peackocks’ did have a chance to double their lead before the break when a set-piece saw Tom Purrington glance high from a few yards outside Parkes’ goal.
Half-Time: Gosport 0 - 1 Taunton
Having recently confirmed a new loan extension until the end of the season, Harry Lee continued to show just what he was made of, whipping a fantastic cross twenty-five yards out in towards the back post. Just narrowly evading Stanley and instead finding former Totton keeper Josh Gould.
Despite not being able to find his way onto the end of this cross, on the sixtieth minute he should have got on to Kavanagh’s cross. Despite being wrestled to the floor, the referee overlooked these appeals and waved for a corner.
Josh Gould was definitely keeping Taunton in the game as a fall fizzled into Stanley. With the former Pompey-man turning Matthews the striker’s low-hit shot found the hand of a stretched-Gould in a fantastic save! Later grappling onto the rebound.
We did eventually find our equaliser through a scrappy goal. From a set-piece Gould spilled the ball and it fell kindly to new joint-coach Danny Hollands. The midfielder bundled the ball in the back of the net to get us back on level terms!
Just before the final whistle Gosport very nearly stole the three points. Dan Wooden getting on the end of a cross saw the striker nod past Gould, but unfortunately not past the post. With it resultantly finishing:
Full-Time: Gosport 1-1 Taunton
