BORO’ bounce back against Bracknell, Tayo Singerr scores on his full league debut, and Michael Fernadnes sealed the win at the death of the game.
Coming into this game BORO’ were looking for some sort of reaction following last week’s blow in the playoff race to Sholing. Glenn Howes made just two changes to his side, giving full Gosport debuts to Tayo Singerrr and Jordan Stepney, both would go on to play integral roles.
It was the visitors’ who had the first real chance and that came on five minutes. Joe Morrison, thirty yards out, floated in an infield cross which Tayo Singerr met just outside the penalty area, he bought down the cross for Hisham Kasimu who took a few touches before Jordan Ngalo swept in and played in Ben Greenwood left of the six yard box. The left-back fired across goal, flying wide.
On ten minutes Bracknell tested Lucas Thomas. This came when Giovanni McGregor was played a pass deep in the Gosport half, and showed some great footwork to work himself past Brad Tarbuck and taking it on the outside of Harry Kavanagh which allowed the Bracknell-forward to arrow a low-driven effort at goal which required Thomas to parry wide.
The home side were nearly undone by two of their own passes. Marcus Johnson-Schuster played a light pass back to goalkeeper Zaki Oualah which was nearly pounced upon by Singerr, the goalkeeper managed to sweep away the ball but in doing so gave it straight to Brad Tarbuck, but his chipped effort lacked the speed required to beat Oualah who got back in time to gather.
Having been knocking on the door, Gosport broke the deadlock on thirty-four minutes. A Bracknell set-piece taken from the right hand side, ten yards off the halfway line, failed to travel far which allowed Jordan Stepney to react well and flick a first time forward ball which played in Singerr. Still needing to run through the entire Bracknell half, the Pompey loanee made light work of it, slotting home to give BORO’ the lead.
Tarbuck came close to doubling the lead before the break when relentless headers from Gosport were fired forward just outside the Bracknell box. It eventually resulted with Kasimu shielding the ball and passing back to Tarbuck who drove a shot just wide after taking a Bracknell deflection on its way out.
Half-Time | Bracknell Town 0-1 Gosport Borough
Ten minutes after the re-start Gosport were given a free-kick thirty yards out after Kasimu was the victim of a poorly timed sliding challenge. Ben Greenwood fancied the set-piece, floating a left-footed shot over the Robins’ wall but it sailed over the bar.
Bracknell did come close on sixty three minutes to levelling when Jordan Esprit strode down the right hand channel and cut back to Jack Mazzone. A Gosport deflection managed to turn the Mazzone’s on target shot wide. The resulting corner also caused damage when Charlie Kennedy’s headed effort was cleared off the line by Stepney.
Kasimu demonstrated his blistering pace when he found himself on the end of a throw-in inside his own half and managed to take it to the opposition box after gliding past red & black shirts. Having done extremely well to work himself through on goal, he couldn’t manage to finish off the chance, driving a shot over.
The game was settled in the third added minute of four, when Jordan Stepney’s clearance worked out to be a perfect pass into substitute Michael Fernandes who stormed forward on the counter. With a lot of space and time, he nonchalantly took it around the Bracknell keeper and poked home his effort to seal the win.
Full-Time | Bracknell Town 0-2 Gosport Borough.
Glenn Howes and his side will feel much pleased following that performance with a lot of positives to take away. Now a big home fixture awaits when former management duo, Pat Suraci and Joe Lea, return with Poole Town. So we’ll see you for that one next week, but final words from me: UP THE BORO!!!
