Gosport 1 - 2 Hayes & Yeading - Two More League Games Left.

Report by James McIntosh

Hayes and Yeading take home the three points from promotion-chasing Gosport.

Following last week’s win against Tiverton, Gosport’s playoff place was confirmed and BORO’ were looking to build upon that momentum. Hayes & Yeading also came off of an impressive victory, beating inform Basingstoke in their fight to escape relegation.

Six minutes into the game, the away side came close to opening the scoring. Ayo Faniyan darting down the left hand channel went for goal despite the angle against him. With his’ shot bending onto the apex of the crossbar and later being cleared.

The next big chance of the half came with Gosport, thirty minutes later. Bradley Tarbuck striding through the centre of the park eventually had a crack at goal from twenty yards. Blazing an effort high of United’s bar. Minutes later the whistle sounded for half time…

HT: Gosport 0-0 Hayes & Yeading

Nicknamed ‘Second half FC’ the hosts’ had a brilliant start to the second interval. Sharp being thread through in front of goal, dished a low driven shot straight at Addai in an effort which was offside regardless.

Up the other end of the pitch, the away side broke the deadlock! Brown in the left pocket floated a ball which found captain Odelusi. Getting on the end of the cross, the skipper headed one into the bottom right corner to get the goals underway!

Five minutes later they cushioned that lead! Faniyan found at the back post from a corner slotted one past Steward to get United’s second.

However ten minutes on from that, BORO’ did claw a goal back. Yet again a poorly defended set-piece saw Wooden stab one in to give the fans some late hope.

It really should have finished with three for Hayes as Wabo danced his way past Williams and Kavanagh before skipping past Steward. Somehow the substitute didn’t find the back of the net and instead his shot skimmed wide of the right post in the last chance of the game.

Luckily for Gosport, the teams around the second position all dropped points. We go against Hendon in our penultimate league game but final words: UP THE BORO!!!
