Kavanagh joins Gosport permanently

Gosport Borough have signed Harry Kavanagh for the 2021/22 season.

Kavanagh played for the club on loan last season from Portsmouth, however was released by Pompey this summer.

The right-back made seven appearances, including five league matches, in a season which was ended in November.

Kavanagh said Boro’ is the perfect place for him to develop as a player.

“I’ve worked with Scott [Green] before when he was at Pompey and the combination of Shaun [Gale] and Scott [Green] I know will help me develop as a player.

“I am still developing and feel that game time at the Boro’ is just what I need and Gosport is the place I want to be.”

The 19-year-old said he is excited by Shaun Gale’s plans for next season.

“Shaun [Gale] got in touch with me the day I left Pompey and that meant a lot to me I knew they wanted me to be part of their exciting plans for the team for next season.

“The buzz around the club is amazing and I want to be a part of it. I’m told that season tickets are selling fast which has to be encouraging. I can’t wait for pre-season to begin.”

Kavanagh made two appearances for Portsmouth with both coming in the EFL Trophy. Gale said he has all the qualities to succeed at Gosport.

“I’ve known Harry and his family for a long time, he has got an unbelievable attitude and desire. We had him on loan last season from Portsmouth, played a few games, although not as many as he would want, and did well.

“Unfortunately, he got released by Pompey but we’re the lucky ones who have gained out of that. He wants to play at a higher level but knows he needs to play men’s football and he believes me and Scott [Green] can do that.”

Gale also said that the signing of Kavanagh shows that Boro’ is trying to get the best local players.

“I’ve always said I wanted to get the best young local talent and Harry ticks those boxes. He’s a great up and coming player, I do think he will go on to become and a very good player. He realises right now he can take a step into non-league to get the experience and improve.”
