Boro will welcome fans back to Privett Park for the first time this 22/23 season with a clash against Portsmouth. Pre-season got underway for Gosport on Friday night with a trip to Petersfield Town.

Goals from two trialists, Billie Busari and Jake Wright saw a comfortable 4-0 win to start off a big month of friendlies in perfect fashion.

But League One Portsmouth will provide a much sterner test for Gale's men. The Blues beat Havant and Waterlooville 3-0 in a game at Westleigh Park yesterday in what was their first action this pre-season.

Gale's looking forward to the test, however, and is eager to welcome fans back to Privett. "The game for us on Sunday is a great game for us. Probably a bit too early in pre-season if I'm honest! It's a game where we want people in the stadium, we want them to have a look at us and see our new signings - the majority of them will be involved on Sunday."

"Pre-season has been good so far, I've enjoyed it. The lads have worked hard. We trained Wednesday, played Friday night and play Sunday but it's good. There's a good atmosphere and a good feel around the ground and the stadium on and off the pitch."

"I said last year - as our first real full season - that that's what I wanted to create. There's still room for improvement in both areas and we'll strive to get to where we want to be."

Gale has hinted that we could see two separate lineups for each half as he looks to ease the squad back into match sharpness. The majority of Boro's summer signings will also feature.

"The game is about getting minutes into people, looking at a few things and hoping people come out without getting injured. Hopefully it's a good game of football but results don't count for much at this stage of the season."

"What you want is for people to work hard, you want people to get to their fitness levels. We'll look at our shape and we'll look at some other things. There'll be a big change of players and most will only play 45 minutes on Sunday."

"I want to thank Danny Cowley for bringing the team over. It's great for us and great for our fans. I love to see Pompey do well, it was my club as a kid and I was there as an apprentice and as a pro. I think if you've ever been at Pompey you'll always have Pompey in your heart."

"It's the same for them on Sunday, they're early in their preparations and have a game on Saturday and then fly away. It's all about preparation at this stage of the season and results are not too important."

"We won't get carried away with anything. I've been around too long to know that. Last pre-season was good and we started the season well but there was bitty bits in pre-season where we weren't happy. We know we're going to get that as well but it's all about being ready for the start of the season."
