Read Shaun Gale's thoughts after Boro' hard-fought victory over Yate Town

"It’s important we stay level headed and work hard to keep on winning football matches”
- Shaun Gale

Shaun Gale said his players have risen to the challenge after they beat Yate Town 2-1 at Privett Park.

It wasn’t an easy match for Boro with Yate in good form themselves and taking a 1-0 lead early on in the match. However, goals from summer signings Matt Briggs and Nicky Dembele meant that Gosport sealed all three points to remain second in the league.

Gale said he challenged his team to continue their good run of form.

“I challenged the players before the game, I said to the players they’ve had a good start but ‘can they continue it?’ Today they have ridden that challenge, they went 1-0 down and came back to win 2-,1 scoring a fantastic goal to win the game.

“All of them put in a shift today, as they should do, I can’t name one player who didn’t come off the pitch dead on their feet. As a manager that’s all I can ask for and today they have risen to that challenge.

“The next challenge is to go to Swindon on Tuesday and get something out of the game against Supermarine.”

It has also been a good couple of weeks for Dembele who scored in his third consecutive start for Boro.

“He works hard and is frustrating at times but he keeps banging the goals in, and it was a great goal today,” said Gale.

“I’m also pleased for Luke Hallett because he made the mistake that Yate scored from, but he helped set up the winning goal. Overall I’m really pleased to get three points, we’re not getting carried away though. It’s important we stay level headed and work hard to keep on winning football matches.”

The match against Yate Town was also the first time Boro saw the combination of Matt Briggs and Ryan Woodford together at the back.

“They had to be on their game today because they’re going up against a team that are quite direct and chuck a lot of balls into the box.

“Everybody knows Ryan Woodford and the qualities he possesses, and Matt Briggs got man of the match today. Matt [Briggs] was strong, and used his pace and experience to good effect.”
