Under 18’s Bring Home The Silverware - BORO’s Cup Winners

GBFC Site Manager16 May - 07:17

Gosport Borough U18’s Beat Brockenhurst 4 - 1 - Congratulations Boys

Speaking to the Club’s website after the game Zak Sharp & Aaron Haggard

Zak’s words - Manager

To finish the season with a trophy is always the best way.

I am absolutely delighted for the lads because a few weeks ago we were all hurting, and to put in the performance we did last night, showed great character and resilience.

We were excellent from the first minute to the ninety fifth minute. We had spells where we had to manage the game as you have to do in finals, and maybe we didn’t look too pretty on the eye but when you are 3-0 up, you protect what you have as the game is won.
We controlled the game and played some really nice stuff for large parts.

This group deserved that moment for the outstanding season they have all had.

We are now looking forward to our trip to Holland as a group, at the end of May to finish off a great season.

Aaron’s words - Assistant Manger

Brilliant to end the season with a trophy as this group of players deserved at least that, and arguably more, after coming so close in both the league and the Hampshire Cup.

It showed real spirit to dust themselves off after the disappointment of the final two weeks ago and produce a performance last night that was more than worthy of lifting the trophy.

We controlled the game for long periods and limited Brockenhurst to very few chances. We felt we should have gone into half-time with more than just the one goal for our efforts, but we doubled the lead early in the second half. A third soon followed and at that point, it felt like there would only be one winner. Fair play to Brock, who kept battling and pulled one back, but the fourth goal killed the game and the night belonged to the BORO’.

It’s obviously bittersweet as it marks the final competitive game for our second years, who have been fantastic over the last two seasons. They’ve been a joy to coach and I wish every one of them the very best in men’s football.

From all involved with the Under 18’s a big thank you to all of the fans who have travelled and been a massive support all season
