Gosport Borough Ladies, back in league action!

Fran Derbyshire4 Sep 2023 - 18:03

Two wins out of three for the opening day.

After all the excitement and build up it was amazing to have all three teams open their league campaign this weekend.

Our first team had a home encounter and got off to the perfect start with a win and a clean sheet in front of a home crowd at the AEI stadium.
It was a nervy opening 10 minutes with Liphook having two early chances and hitting the woodwork. But Boro soon got into their rhythm and Emma Glover opened the scoring with a superb finish after being fed through by Zoe Bache. After another good passage of play Boro got themselves a corner from which Jodie Goodall headed home superbly after a beautiful assist by Aleisha Gratton. Zoe rightfully got her goal after being fed through by Jodie. She quickly scored again soon after Lisa Taylor came off her line well to deny Liphook and Boro went straight up the other end and after some brilliant link up play with Tanisha Gray managed to get her second of the game. Second half as expected the tempo and pace reduced slightly due to the heat but the slick football didn’t stop, and Boro controlled the game well. Charlotte Roli got her goal after being fed through by Miche Niven after a “Simple” pass. With a few minutes to go Zoe Bache finally got her hat trick after being assisted by Jodie once again.

Managers Comments
The team did everything I asked and more! They saved themselves a lot of running by letting the ball do the work. The link up play today was incredible at times, let alone our finishing. 3 points and a clean sheet after promoting and jumping into Division 1 is the perfect start, I couldn’t ask for anymore. Huge thank you to Boro for letting us showcase ladies’ football at the AEI and to the fans that came down to watch.

Our reserves game was abandoned 3 minutes from full time but having been well over the 75 min mark we hope the result stands, the FA are dealing with this one. We will not comment any further on this at this time but we will carry on to talk about the football from the day.

Our reserves battled hard to come away with all 3 points after a 3-2 win against Paulsgrove. It was a very hard game and not just because of the heat. The ladies played so well as a team considering this is their first competitive game together. Despite going behind twice the team fought hard and not only brought the game back level on two occasions they then went on to take the lead and eventually win it, demonstrating the amazing mentality of all our players. All 3 of our goals started with our own goalkeeper and the ball was played through the thirds each time, again demonstrating what this team is capable of.

Captains comments;
Despite the heat and going behind twice the team were so determined to make a point that they are the team to beat this season. Very proud of them all for battling on to make that statement.

Paulsgrove 2-3 GBLFC Res FT

Our development made the long journey to Rushmoor and although came away with a defeat hold their heads up high after getting their first competitive fixture complete. This is a completely new squad so it will take time however the signs are there, and they will keep working and fighting hard for the Boro shirt.

Captains comments;
First game under our belt, travelled up to Rushmoor. The sun was shining and was very hot, but everyone worked so hard even though the result wasn’t on our side there are lots of positives to take away from this. Im proud of them all! Good luck to our friends Rushmoor for the rest of the season.
